National Infertility Awareness Week
Hi everyone! Today I’ll be sharing a little about National Infertility Awareness Week abbreviated as NIAW which is happening this week! This is a movement to increase awareness about infertility and foster discussion about the barriers those affected by infertility face. Infertility is recognized as a disease by the World Health Organization and affects a person’s ability to have a child. A common misconception about infertility is that it only affects women, but, in reality, it can affect people of all genders. One main goal of NIAW is to dispel myths about infertility and increase education about infertility topics. Infertility is a very stigmatized topic that many people don’t know enough about. Those struggling with infertility often feel shame and are secretive about their struggles because of biases and judgments others can hold against them. Access to and outcomes from infertility treatment are affected by many factors such as socioeconomic status, geographic location, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity. To show your support for those struggling with infertility, please wear orange on Wednesday, April 27 to remind them they are not alone. I will send out an email with more information as well as ways to get involved during National Infertility Awareness Week. Thank you!
